Cranston Public Library Learning Gardens
Our Purpose
In April 2014, the Cranston Public Library launched a Seed Library at the William Hall Library in an effort to spark interest in the community agriculture movement. Over the next two years, our employees and volunteers expanded the Seed Library project to include gardening classes led by local master gardeners, support film screenings, and provide gardening projects for all ages. The purpose of the Learning Garden project is to enrich the lives of those in the Cranston community through theoretical and hands-on agricultural education. This is being achieved through the development of Learning Gardens at three Cranston Public Library locations. The planting and gardening is incorporated into pre-existing programming for both adults and youth, while providing community service opportunities to teens.
