Our purpose is to...Given that Grace Academy is an inner city school, located in a building surrounded by cement, and all of our students are from underserved neighborhoods in Hartford, we want to enhance their experience in planting, tending and harvesting their own vegetables. This teaches them a better understanding of the growing cycle and requirements, and its impact on good nutrition. Our students' families are  low-income and 86% are eligible for the federal free lunch program.  All of our girls have very limited exposure to the process of planning and growing a garden.  Our student population is primarily minority
