~~We are a collective of individuals that have come to gather to build community gardens in South and West Dallas. These are just two parts of Dallas that have been designated as a food deserts and low income communities. The lack of access to healthier food options has detrimental effects on one’s body, mind and spirit as well as one’s income. People in our communities spend more money on either; low quality foods that can damage their health or the get hit by the cost of transportation trying to get to neighborhood that have more varieties of healthier foods.Unity Community Gardens is a "sweat equity" program open to the residents that live near the gardens. Residents can have a plot to grow their food, if they are willing to work and help maintain the gardens. We don't turn anyone will to work out just because they can't pay the monthly membership fee of $5.
