Westminster Center School Garden
Our Purpose
to promote healthy lifestyle choices to children and their parents through garden work and cooking experiences during school and at after school family events. We emphasize, growing, eating and integrating healthy food choices into the home environment. We work closely with the After School Program, using our garden as a basis for nutrition education, science, math, reading and cooking projects. Because we live in Vermont, our growing season is limited. We hope to extend it to include growing greens and other crops in the spring and fall by erecting a hoop house. We are requesting funds to assist us in building a 14x24 foot hoop house over part of our 100x75 foot school garden. A group of fifth and sixth graders will help in the construction of the hoop house with help from their teachers as part of their math and science study.
