Dexter Community Garden
Our Purpose
The Dexter Community Garden Leaders, Chia Xiong and Blia Moua and SCLT have been working in partnership for almost 15 years. Both are Hmong gardeners who originally sustenance gardened in SCLT community gardens and expanded to market growing. Chia and SCLT co-founded the Community Gardeners Marketing Collaborative in 2009. The collaborative sells produce at the Broad Street Farmers Market each summer. Blia sells his produce at flea markets and farmers markets across Providence, but mainly in his community in south Providence. Chia is in SCLT's Burnett Community Garden and Blia is in Wilson Community Garden. Both grow in small plots, but the demand for their fresh, organic, culturally-appropriate produce has become such that they need more space to grow for market. Dexter Community Garden is the location which offers them convenience, efficiency, and maximized space.
