to oppose Footprint Power LP proposal to construct a 670MW gas burning power plant by June 2016 after the Salem MA coal burning plant shuts down in June 2014. Recent "environmental cleanup laws" and the increasingly non-competitive price of coal has led to closing plants such as Salem's. Some think this is progress, such as Salem's local politicians and state representatives. However, we believe reversing climate change requires no more investment in fossil fuel energy generation, and that Salem should be a poster child for this new paradigm. Instead of a dangerous facility that pays only 2% of the tax base and harms human health and the environment, our group wants to build support to oppose the Footprint proposal and help the 65-acre waterfront site cleaned up and redeveloped in a way more suitable to a densely populated, historic, EJ community.GASPP needs financial support for legal filing fees, experts and other expenses.
