Our Purpose

The Downtown Pittsfield Farmers Market was started with the belief that everyone in our community should have access to quality, nutritious foods. Although our customers are diverse, it was important to us that we ensure accessability to people who have in the past been underserved. With 50% of our city's population considered low-income, we located the market in the Morningside neighborhood, where income rates are the lowest; where over 80% of students at the neighborhood elementary school qualify for free lunch; and where there are no other markets or grocery stores in walking distance, making healthy food options difficult. The Downtown Pittsfield Farmers Market provides a venue for local farmers, food producers, and artisans to come together to bring fresh, locally-grown and produced food and related products to all the community. The market encourages direct communication between consumers and producers, fosters community building, and promotes healthy living for all.We began in 2013, with a weekly Saturday 25 week May through October market. In 2015, we added a monthly indoor winter market on the second Saturday--November through April.
