Our Purpose

The primary goal of the Hinesburg Community School Garden is to engage the school community in the life skill of growing and enjoying nutritious food from start-to-finish.  We also teach the importance of caring for the land, including; water conservation, the value of fertile soil, organic maintenance practices, and respect for outdoor spaces.  Lastly, we wanted to turn an empty courtyard into a beautiful, fruitful, and engaging gathering space for students and our community. Our current garden has 21 raised beds, 3 picnic tables, a garden shed, 3 composters, and colorful student art mounted on the surrounding brick walls.  This welcoming space is open to all, and is used for outdoor learning, socializing, picnicing, and exercise.
