The purpose of GROW Communities is to set up a sustainable gardening project in the city of Hammond, Louisiana through which empowered local farmers, teachers, and churches can mentor young adults within the general areas of life skills, academic knowledge, and spiritual health. Through these garden-school-church partnerships, we also hope to address the challenges of childhood obesity, local food deserts, and truancy. An overarching goal of GROW is to build community within the city. Through working side-by-side on a common task, we hope to foster an environment in which community members and institutions can rediscover the art of community.
