The purpose of the covenant soup kitchen is to provide,"not only food, but an environment of care, love, support and safety to those who come through our doors." The soup kitchen offers "a light breakfast and a hot nutritious lunch 6 days a week at no charge to its guests." The Soup Kitchen works in collaboration with community groups of Willimantic, including the WAIM (Windham Area interfaith ministry) community garden, which donates produces to the soup kitchen. Paul Doyle works at the Soup Kitchen, Sally Milius manages the community garden, and I, Brett, am a student at the University of Connecticut, working on a senior thesis regarding food security. I am working on a project in collaboration with Paul and Sally.
