Our Purpose

Setting the Table: From Field to Plate (STT) educates and empowers youth to make informed eating and shopping choices and to advocate effectively for just, environmentally and agriculturally sound practices - locally and in the wider world. Winchester is interested in food and farming. Our town farm is growing. Our 4th grade gardening program is now at all the elementary schools. In this context STT uniquely addresses food, farming and hunger together. Participants visit, learn and work at local farms and food pantries; cook healthy, nutritious meals with local chefs and community cooks and donate food to those in need. We make knowledge and action radiate out from our students, peer leaders, their families and Advisory Board members, making town life more reflective of food justice. Our hands-on, service-centered program develops future leaders by introducing participants to food leaders, and fostering their growth to become peer leaders whose next steps build on what they learn.
