Cape Cod's estuaries and freshwater ponds are suffering serious ecological damage caused primarily by an overload of nitrogen and phosphorus from human waste. Due to the failure of septic systems to keep these nutrients out of the groundwater and sensitive ecosystems, communities on Cape Cod and around the world are contemplating widespread sewering. We propose a shift away from the engineered approach, which will stretch both municipal and homeowners' budgets, in favor of more cost effective composting and urine diverting toilets and resource recovery. Therefore our primary mission is to encourage widespread use of eco-toilets through education and information dissemination to our local population.
