Our Purpose

To raise awareness about New England's marine ecosystems through localized dining inspired by science. Embracing a new definition of "sustainable seafood" that takes into account the whole ecosystem instead of just single species, this initiative promotes a unique eating experience that is simultaneously tactile, visual, ethical, and educational. For 2012, Eating with the Ecosystem has partnered with six Rhode Island restaurants to take diners culinary tours of three large marine ecosystems found off our shores: Southern New England, Georges Bank, and the Gulf of Maine. Eating with the Ecosystem brings together chefs, marine scientists, and local fishermen to recreate these ecosystems on the plate and galvanize a place-based approach to sustainable seafood for New England.
