Southborough Open Land Foundation
Our Purpose
SOLF's mission is to preserve, enhance, and provide education about natural resources in Southborough, MA in order to maintain and improve the quality of life for present and future generations. SOLF's early years focused primarily on land preservation as the community faced rapid development. We have been successful in preserving more than 315 acres in Southborough, 183 of which we hold in fee in 17 parcels. We are an awardee of the USDA Wildlife Habitat Improvement Program (WHIP) to establish early successional forest (ESF) habitat on six acres of the 56-acre Beals Preserve. This SOLF-created habitat for threatened species is serving as a regional demonstration of invasive species removal and ESF restoration. SOLF seeks to recruit and utilize volunteer land stewards, provide education about the habitats protected on our properties, and promote the use of our conservation land as an outdoor classroom for all ages. SOLF is a grassroots, volunteer-run organization that works hard to continually attract and engage enthusiastic volunteers.
