Our Purpose

to provide support and legal, technical, and environmental analysis to community organizations, local governments and state agencies regarding issues that may affect quality of life, community values and potential growth in northwestern Connecticut and southwestern Massachusetts. Our goals have been to a) provide assistance to members of the community concerned with preservation of the rural character and environmental quality of the towns of Sheffield, MA and Canaan, CT, and b) recruit and retain appropriate consultants and experts to assist the towns in reviewing and revising municipal ordinances and regulations. Our NADF name, which stands for No Asphalt Defense Fund, stems from our effort since 2007 to prevent toxic air pollution from Century Acquisitions, a Sheffield concrete plant seeking to add hot mix asphalt (HMA) production. Recently, we have also become involved in opposing the establishment of a Dollar General store in Sheffield.
