Our Purpose

Gardening the Community engages Springfield youth and their families to transform their neighborhoods through growing organic food on empty lots and organizing for a just and equitable local food system. We promote and demonstrate the benefits of youth leadership development, environmental stewardship, locally grown food, and resident-driven community development. We examine the roots causes of racial health disparities, poverty and neighborhood disinvestment, including the role of racism.
