Our Purpose

to sustain an already small successful garden, to foster community spirit by working with people of all ages, and giving them the opportunity to grow and harvest food and flowers to distribute to our neighbors in need of a brighter day.

Summary of Projects

In 2009, the Garden received a grant to grow and distribute more vegetables and herbs to the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center and Lucy's Hearth, and more flowers to local nursing homes, Senior Care centers than in the previous years. The existing garden will double in size, adding an additional raised garden area particularly for people with physical disabilities and installing two new drip irrigation systems for the old and new gardens.

The Methodist Community Gardens received a Small grant in 2008 to guide youth in learning fundamentals of gardening. Cooperation between churches is increasing use of the garden space. Around 30 to 40 kids from Sunday school will be participating in the program over the summer. The current toolshed is being shared with the church and the request is to have a separate shed to establish the garden further and give it an energy boost.
