Our Purpose

Our main thrust is to cleanup the river 6-7 times per year to remove waste and improve the water quality of the river. We also remove tree and branch blockages to improve navigation of river and make the river more accessible to local residents. We also give 2-5 educational talks per year on animal life and fauna to increase  interest in the river. These talks are used as a source potential new members to enhanse or continue our improvement activities. The Shawsheen River Watershed Association (SRWA) has emerged as the principal organization for protection of water and land resources in the watershed. We input to development proposed on the river to maintain health and viability of river. We conducted an e-coli testing program which helped elimate eight of nine e-coli (major  pollutant) hotspots in lower 60% of river. This work was stopped when grant funding ran out.
