Neutaconkanut Hill Conservancy
Our Purpose
to preserve & protect the land of Neutaconkanut Hill, in perpetuity, for future generations, so it remains as intended by our forefathers, a place of undisturbed natural beauty: Build a strong organization, improve & maintain the natural physical character of the Hill & encourage responsible public use of the land (for greatest physical, educational, environmental enjoyment), discourage destructive uses. Our 1st goal: Taking dangerous, un-kept parkland & transforming it to a safe, pristine Forestland, has been achieved. Our next Goal: Growth, education (all levels/ages) & all aspects of forest preservation. Our next focus is to institute school programs in science, history, environment, etc. (already in progress) working in concert with area schools; introducing the Hill to a wider geographic audience within the State, research & embrace projects that document the unique history of the Hill, & raise awareness of the natural, archaeological/geographical value of this Forestland.
Summary of Projects
The group received grants in 2005 and 2006 to establish a strong voice for the protection of 88 acres of city park land by creating a neighborhood organization, heightening visibility of the park, and creating a marked trail system with signage for better and more frequent utilization by the public. The city parkland provides increasingly threatened open space in the densely settled western edge of Providence
