Summary of Projects

Kickemuit River Council received a grant most recently in fall 2010 to fund the analysis of data taken from monitoring a sewer line to identify the location of the contamination. This analysis will then be used to press Warren officials to reline the sewer and KRC is already well connected to town officials. The area of contamination is also where a newly proposed public bike path would end and where the town would like to put in a picnic area and kayak launch, so KRC is confident that the town will invest in fixing the sewage problem with proper analysis and outreach.

KRC received a grant in 2009 to put 4 test wells near the 4 storm drain pipes that are running 20,000 to 40,000 fecal only in heavy rains, as recommended by the engineering company who completed Kickemuit River's Storm Drain Analysis Phase 1.

Kickemuit River Council received a grant in 2008 to re-publish the 'Caring for Your Septic System' brochure with updated septic regulations from RI Dept. of Environmental Managament And mail it to approx. 450 homeowners with septic systems on the fresh & salt water Kickemuit River to improve water quality.

Kickemuit River Council received a grant in 2006 to help identify and correct the pollution problem in the Kickemuit River in heavy rains by running a camera on the potentially contaminating roads so any illegal or unauthorized tie-ins can be corrected.

Kickemuit River Council received a grant in 2003 to finish a sewer connection testing program to protect the Kickemuit River watershed, estuary and well water in Warren.
