First Branch Sustainability Network received a grant in 2010 to cover costs related to regional meetings to gauge interest and need for a regional food processing center. The Sustainability Network resulted from Chelsea Food Council and the First Branch Sustainability Project connecting efforts. After several initial food projects (including a NEGEF-funded community garden in Thetford), the group is now focusing on larger discussions to stimulate local food production after attending the NOFA-VT conference earlier in the year.
First Branch Sustainability Network
Our Purpose
to promote the norms and values of sustainable living in our surrounding communities. This means developing an economy that is locally based, free from excessive dependence on fossil fuels and other extractive resources, and that works through personal relationships within living communities. To build the local food networks that must inevitably replace the industrial model of agriculture.
Summary of Projects
The First Branch Sustainability Project received a grant in 2008 to devote time and expertise towards reducing their town's dependence in fossil fuels by holding the First Branch Sustainability Fair.
