The group received a grant in 2010 to build a storage shed for tools and garden amendments so they will be safe from 'borrowers'. Presently tools are covered with tarps in summer and stored off site in winter. The shed would double as a kiosk for community garden information on the outside. Barre Community Garden will work with members of Village Convergence to design and build the shed. In 2011, Barre Community Garden received a grant for building materials to finish the cob shed project. With the help of Village Building Convergence, a week-long sustainable building event, the group will finish what is a rough structure of a shed.
Barre Community Garden at Metro Way
Our Purpose
to connect and strengthen our community by expanding local access to healthy, sustainable food through community gardens, education and outreach programs. Barre is a food desert. There is a disproportionate number of seniors, single parent families, unemployed youth, and people who live below the poverty line who do not have access to a grocery store downtown to say nothing of fresh produce.
