Our Purpose

Our purpose is to train people with obstacles to employment by repurposing and reusing materials that might otherwise end up in a landfill. We create unique high-quality furniture and household goods using pallets, fencing, and scrap wood.  We started this community development association when we saw that the opioid crisis had a far-reaching effect on our community.  Other non-profits and government agencies stepped in to help with immediate needs but a gap existed from initial recovery services and finding gainful employment.  We use an apprenticeship model to train people in woodworking skills while also addressing their obstacles to employment and coaching them in life skills.  Our furniture/art is unique as each piece is created by repurposed materials which have their own characteristics.  We also have incorporated repurposed metal into our pieces on occasion. These pieces are created by a different craftsperson (apprentice) who then adds their own unique personality into each piece. Our goal is to grow our shop from a small unheated barn into a larger environmentally controlled workspace with a retail front.  We hope to find support for the substantial amount of consumables we use on a monthly basis like glue, sandpaper, nails/screws, paint, and polyurethane. Our initial funding sources help pay our basic expenses and go to a half salary for our executive director.
