The Winooski Parents & Students Project (WPS) exists to build a stronger, safer, and more equitable community where immigrant, refugee, New American, and multicultural families, regardless of language, background, or immigration status, have a meaningful voice, access to resources, and the opportunity to participate in decisions that affect their lives.Our main goal is to strengthen community power and belonging by connecting families to culturally and linguistically responsive education, youth programming, social supports, legal and civic information, and trusted community resources. We create spaces where young people and parents can build relationships, develop leadership, reduce isolation, and feel safe, valued, and empowered. We also work to address barriers and inequities through grassroots organizing, advocacy, civic engagement, and leadership development. We believe communities most affected by inequity should help shape the solutions and be part of the decision making process. Our purpose is to build stronger and more resilient communities by empowering and fostering meaningful networks of support, connection, and mutual aid.It is about transforming community members from recipients of services into leaders, advocates, and decision-makers. Our vision is a Vermont where every immigrant, refugee, and New American family belongs, every young person can thrive, and our voices are recognized as an essential part of the community’s strength & future.
