West Side Neighborhood Coalition/Exeter Area Conservancy
Our Purpose
The Exeter Area Conservancy, which includes the West Side Neighborhood Coalition, is currently working to oppose the development of a large swath of land adjacent to town conservation land and our neighborhood. A tributary of the Squamscott River traverses the property as part of a sub watershed that feeds into the Great Bay watershed and a portion of the 50 acres is identified as a brownfield site with NH DES. It is a sensitive area that-if developed-would have negative impacts on both the ecosystem of the sub watershed, Great Bay, as well as our neighborhood and overall community. Our ultimate goal is to see the non-contaminated 42 +/- acres conserved and added to the adjacent Town Forest. During the review process for this development our group has identified a few areas of the planning board process that need improvement. We would like to see changes made such that new development proposals in town are viewed holistically, and decisions are made that keep environmental impact at the forefront.
