Our purpose is to educate the population of our school and surrounding programs for healthier living choices for ages one year to five years old. The project would begin with an education curriculum during the winter months that would then carry out to the physical preparing and planting if an edible garden for our preschool program. Over 25% of our families within our school attend our program through a tuition voucher program through the State of Massachusetts. These 25% of families also partake in the food stamp program and through both surveys and parent feedback, we have found that most children cannot connect the growing of food with the food that they consume on a regular basis. The addition of the edible graden would allow children to eat fresh vegetables while attending the school, along with learn about planting a garden at home both inside and outside, creating a menus based on fresh foods that we grow and sharing meals with families twice a year through a school function.
