WEST END GARDEN
Our Purpose
Our purpose is to grow medicinal plants and distribute them to frontline workers of the COVID-19 response and support our communities' collective immunity with adaptogenic herbs and healthy, organic vegetables. We will be growing our herbs in a well-established community garden that began on a vacant house lot on the West End of Providence in 2011. The soil has been lab tested, remediated, and built using no-till mulching and local composting for the past 8 growing seasons. While the garden was once primarily a vegetable garden, the current circumstances have shown us a need to focus on medicinal plants. There are many well-established plant communities in the garden that we will continue to bolster while we introduce new species that members of the volunteer group have experience with. We are working with other community other, established organizations in Providence that are working to bring groceries to disabled and otherwise vulnerable individuals and families and supporting health-care employees as they try to remain healthy while entering compromised spaces daily.
