Our Purpose

By empowering and mobilizing a grass-roots, intersectional group of individuals and organizations (environmental, health, peace, & social justice, etc.), we will advocate to demand action on PFAS chemicals near 7 military sites in Vermont (VT), providing the public with educational info, a website, programs/events, and media stories about the contamination of water/fish/wildlife.  Our coalition goals include:
  • Convening and organizing  3 public programs/rallies involving all coalition members near 2 or 3 of the 7 military sites in VT,
  • Translating complex PFAS info into accessible formats to educate communities on the VT military use of PFAS and its contamination of our water/ecosystems, and its toxic effects on human health,
  • Mobilizing and empowering the public and impacted communities to understand how to work with government to access information and with legislators to enact laws,
  • Testing sample ground water, rivers/streams, and fish near VT military bases for PFAS contamination (i.e., citizen science) and publicizing the results through press conferences,
  • Teaching coalition members  how to utilize the media in order to educate about PFAS military contamination and influence public opinion, &
  • Expanding our coalition to involve more affected individuals, building leadership skills and knowledge for all members.
The Coalition meets monthly. Major events will take place from April to December 2021, culminating in activities in the late summer.
