Our Purpose

Our purpose is to...combat social isolation among veterans in our communities and link veterans to well-earned benefits and services that will improve their quality of life. We do this by recruiting and training fellow veterans and assigning these volunteers to other veterans who need a friend. Each volunteer visits his/her assigned veteran in the veteran's home, providing companionship, respite for family members, and assistance with obtaining other benefits and services, including VA benefits, food sources (Meals on Wheels and food pantries), better housing, and other necessities. Often these relationships develop into lifelong friendships. During the coronavirus crisis, we are calling all our veterans to see what they need and ensure they are doing OK. We have referred a few to VA counselors, encouraged volunteers to stay in touch with their veterans through phone calls and cards, and followed two hospitalized veterans. Volunteers have provided food and other essentials on doorsteps and sent emails to be delivered to those in rehab and healthcare facilities.
