Our Purpose

Mission: Vermont Interfaith Power & Light empowers and inspires Vermonters and their communities of faith to act, advocate, and care for our sacred Earth. We bring a moral and spiritual imperative to addressing the climate crisis.Vision: Faith communities leading the way to a restored relationship with the living Earth.Guiding Principles: The environmental crisis in Vermont and beyond calls on us as spiritual leaders and people of faith to reaffirm our commitment to caring for our shared home and the common good. The climate crisis, which is threatening the world, is at heart a spiritual crisis and demands recognition that:
  • the Earth is a precious gift; 
  • global climate change is a moral challenge which is disrupting the natural balance; 
  • we live our faith through our actions; 
  • there is no peace or justice without a healthy, thriving planet.
Our work seeks to reignite a deep connection to the living Earth that is at the heart of all spiritual traditions. We do this through four primary programmatic areas: Eco-spiritual Programs and Resources; Earth Care Advocacy; Greening Worship Communities; and Climate Action Grants.

Summary of Projects

In 2008 VTIPL received a grant ro redesign the website to add capacity and content and make it so that the Administrator will be able to make basic changes to the site so that it can act as a clearinghouse of information about what Vermont's faith communities are doing to save energy and use it more efficiently.

VTIPL received a grant in 2006 to help fund a major expansion of educational workshops and energy audits to help Vermont congregations recognize the moral implications or present patterns of energy use and learn how to reduce energy consumption and increase use of renewable energy.
