Uxbridge Against Asphalt

Location:

Uxbridge, Massachusetts

Active since:

2012

Our Purpose

We are a group of concerned Uxbridge residents who believe that the 1995 bylaw prohibiting asphalt plants in our town has never been lawfully repealed. Therefore, we believe that it is not legal to allow any asphalt plant or manufacturing in our town. Evergreen Development has applied for and been awarded a special permit from our town Planning Board to allow an asphalt plant to be located at 586 Quaker Highway, Uxbridge, MA. We are very concerned about the health ramifications to our town residents, including students who will be attending our new Uxbridge High School which just opened in 2012 and is located one mile away from the above site for the asphalt plant. We are also very concerned about the impact on the environment as the aquifers, the Rosenfeld Well site, the Blackstone Valley River, and the Ironstone Reservoir are all in very close proximity to this site (most are within one mile). Other concerns are related to losses in property values, and traffic and fire safety.
