UR Community Cares
Our Purpose
UR Community Cares (UCC) was founded in February 2019 by a physical therapist and an entrepreneur, with a mission to provide the connection that helps older adults and people with physical disabilities live safely at home through community-based volunteer support. Our goal is to be active across New England, we are currently focused on Connecticut, expanding more into Massachusetts as we are a 100% volunteer organization at this time. Specifically, we aim to help older adults and adults with physical disabilities with everyday tasks with yardwork, helping with chores around the house, or general companionship, all at no cost. Community members and volunteers who sign up on the platform can connect in their local area, and must complete a background check before enrollment is approved to ensure safety. Now in its third year of operations, UCC provides an innovative platform that harnesses technology “for the good” and leverages precious human capital to strengthen community ties. The organization is uniquely qualified to: (i) match and schedule community members with local volunteers, all of whom are background checked; (ii) securely fulfill requests from older/disabled persons who need assistance to live more safely and longer in their homes; (iii) provide trusted help with household tasks, yard work, companionship and transportation at no charge; (iv) safely fill in the gaps of traditional paid home care and provide a respite option for family caregivers.
