University of Maine Cooperative Extension/Maine Sea Grant
Our Purpose
to increase climate literacy of Maine citizens through engagement in a broad network of people learning through observation and recording local effects of a changing climate.
Signs of the Seasons is an environmental monitoring and climate change education program for Maine citizens of all ages. Through the program, citizens contribute to scientists’ understanding of the local effects of global climate change by observing and recording the phenology (seasonal changes) of common plants and animals living in their own backyards and communities. Our special campaign this season is to help volunteers understand the ecological relationships that depend on the life cycles of species, such as monarch butterflies and milkweed and take action in their communities to assist in protecting this special species and raise awareness.
