Our purpose is to build and maintain a Library of Things that includes tools, electronics, games, power banks, medical equipment, watercraft, and more.  The LOT supports our service area of 6 towns (about 6,000 people) by letting patrons borrow rather than buy, try out before buying, or explore uses. Our LOT has 170 items as of this writing.  Patrons can search by category, put items on hold, and renew them online.  Our items include kayaks, canoes, and paddle boards stored at a nearby beach and checked out at the library.  Our mission is also to model sustainability solutions. For example, after seeing how the library built its 25kw solar array using a local contractor and electrician rather than a large company, others in the community chose the same method.  The contractor (Kari Hulva) is part of our LOT team.  Our LOT is also a community building exercise. People who wish to borrow an item (often a demographic who does not come to the library for books) must get a library card (free) and are then part of our library community, on our email list, and are more likely to attend a community meal or other event.  A future project of our LOT will be a quarterly Repair Cafe.  Our LOT group believes that a solid, caring, capable community is how our town survives and thrives in whatever the future brings.
