Our Purpose

Trash to Fashion produces online media and zero-waste events that teach people how to turn trash into fashion to reduce pollution and create a healthier environment for all.Trash to Fashion’s MISSION is to ignite mindset shifts and spark behavioral change toward mindful acquisition, conscious resource use, and reuse or repurposing rather than disposal. This mission statement offers the flexibility to expand and adjust our methods in the future to engage people in other aspects of building a community where reuse and repurposing are the norm. Founded in 2025 by New Haven-based social “artrepreneur” Rebekah Fraser, Trash to Fashion is an independent, community-led organization with a hyper-local focus. In its first ten months, Trash to Fashion engaged with 23 community partners, including 15 funders and in-kind sponsors who recognized the value in Trash to Fashion’s intersectional approach to community engagement and environmental action. In 2026, Trash to Fashion will expand on last year’s programming, providing more events in new venues to reach a wider audience and have a greater impact by engaging people of all ages and backgrounds in environmental action that centers joy and creativity.
