TownGreen’s mission is to promote inclusive, fossil-free sustainability solutions for Cape Ann, MA, and to increase residents’ awareness and preparedness for climate change impacts in our coastal region. Climate change is rapidly shifting our traditional weather patterns, making extreme weather and related impacts more frequent and inevitable, resulting in a continuously evolving threat to people, ecosystems, and the economy.  These threats expose the vulnerability of our community’s infrastructure—from major utilities located in flood plains to public health and safety challenges and lack of emergency preparedness planning. TownGreen meets the need for community-based climate awareness, mitigation, and adaptation educational programs on Cape Ann, building strong, resilient communities that are ready to face the challenges ahead.In 2025, TownGreen is turning its focus to emergency preparedness and disaster resilience education and outreach. We feel that more attention is needed in this area, which directly addresses our mission to prepare residents for the impacts of climate change. These education programs will center on a neighborhood outreach model starting with the federal and state designated environmental justice and priority populations communities in Gloucester and Rockport.
