Tilton Northfield Recreation Council
Our Purpose
The Tilton-Northfield Recreation Council serves as a longstanding community hub through The Pines. In recent years, residents from both towns have expressed a desire for deeper community engagement and more opportunities for intergenerational connection outside of structured programs. While there is recognition that the building itself needs continued renovation, community members have also identified the outdoor spaces as underutilized and full of potential. In response, the agency has begun organizing to find volunteers and update these outdoor areas in ways that invite participation and shared ownership. Through a community designed mural and the creation of raised garden beds, we aim to transform outdoor space into a welcoming gathering place shaped by resident voice. Our goal is to strengthen connection and belonging in a rural community by creating visible, participatory projects that bring youth, adults, seniors, and individuals of all abilities together. This effort is not simply about beautification, it is about increasing engagement, reducing isolation, and fostering shared space that belongs to the entire community. We are intentionally building a volunteer-led organizing team that reflects both towns and includes youth, retirees, parents, and residents. By centering community leadership in both planning and implementation, we aim to ensure this work continues beyond the grant period and strengthens long-term civic participation.
