The Woodstock Permaculture Group
Our Purpose
Our purpose is to expand our new permaculture garden which is in the heart of the Village of Woodstock. Our intention is that the garden will serve as a model for educating residents of Woodstock (and beyond Woodstock) about permaculture, food security and community food systems. Our goal is to inspire people to transform their lawns into Edible Forest Gardens.* We also plan to work with the Woodstock's two Elementary Schools to ensure that the next generation will be knowledgeable about permaculture and will urge their parents to create permaculture gardens in their yards/on their land. We want to do this work because we see permaculture as a way to both mitigate and adapt to climate change. We want to raise consciousness in people about the real threats of climate change and how we can, working together in communities, creatively (and quickly) transition to a new systems and a new way of living on this planet.*Edible forest gardening is the art and science of putting plants together in woodlandlike patterns that forge mutually beneficial relationships, creating a perennial garden ecosystem that is more than the sum of its parts
