Our Purpose

The Third Place is an organizational collaborative and coworking space that builds community capacity through collective work and cooperative economics to support the advancement of Black entrepreneurs, community builders, and professionals in Maine.  Although the organization is Black centric, we work to create an ecosystem that utilizes the skills, talents, and resources across all BIPOC communities. Through our SHIFT MAINE program, we organize BIPOC employees in ten economic sectors: housing, healthcare and wellness, media and communications, environment (Eco BIPOC), banking and financial services, higher education, k-12 education, nonprofits, STEM, and business.  Programs and Services:The SHIFT program focuses on:   building connections between BIPOC employees in specific economic sectors to: (a) address systemic issues in their workplace or sector with adverse impact on communities of color, (b) build visibility and representation of BIPOC employees in associated fields, (c) mentor new BIPOC professionals in the field, and (d) serve as a source of sector-level expertise for the BIPOC community and external stakeholders Other Programs and ServicesDEIB Consulting ServicesCo-working Space - Free to low cost meeting and collaboration space for freelancers, nonprofits, small business owners,Women's Leadership AllianceCOMPASS Cross-Sector NetworkingBIPOC Business After Hours
