The Teen Center at The Brick House Community Resource Center
Our Purpose
The goal of the Teen Center at the Brick House Community Resource Center is to create opportunities for empowerment and leadership among youth in Franklin County, Massachusetts. It provides a space where youth can express themselves, build friendships, access resources, make connections with supportive adults, and learn about social justice. The Teen Center has three major programs, including an after-school drop-in program, an art program called Momentum Arts, and a Youth Leadership Group, which helps develop and improve Teen Center programs. Leadership Group participants also have the opportunity to participate in a paid summer internship. 2021's interns will be the primary beneficiaries of this grant. The summer internship program is an important venue for participants to learn job skills and practice leadership. Through this program, interns are paid to work with various community projects like the farmer's market and community gardens, and at public spaces like parks. By organizing as a group and making the important decisions about how a project will be completed, the interns learn leadership skills, develop a sense of their own agency, and strengthen their feelings of ownership and responsibility for their community.
