The Planeteers of Southern Maine
Our Purpose
Mission: To organize, educate, and act on a local level in support of our planet.Purpose: The Planeteers of Southern Maine is a grassroots effort dedicated to creating a sustainable future for the planet and more specifically for southern Maine. We encourage, coordinate, and take action on issues related to environmental stewardship and climate change, and align ourselves with Maine's Climate Action Plan. Our founding members include educators and business proprietors with several serving on local governing bodies. Our reach is far greater due our collaborative work with a wide variety of environmental and educational groups within the state. During the 2 years of isolating during the CoViD pandemic, we partnered up with the Union of Concerned Scientists, the Kennebunk Free Library and the Wells Reserve in hosting a series of zoom sessions, bringing voices in from all over the state, many of them members of Maine's Climate Council, and actually NEGEF too in the person of Julia Dundorf :). Prior to CoViD, we organized many community actions, a wide variety of Planet "Walks" and Planet Talks, and instituted an annual Earth Day event serving the region, with over 50 exhibitors, mostly scientists and educators working in the non-profit sector.
