Our Purpose

The PEG Center develops and hosts exhibits, lectures, discussion groups, educational events, and activist programs to increase community awareness and engagement related to the environmental crisis, social justice and human rights. We collaborate with artists, activists, environmental and other experts, and organizations to provide comprehensive education to spur social change. Our motto is "Educate-to-Motivate-to-Activate." We have had more than 50 speaker events, meetings and art exhibits related to our areas of focus.  Go to https://www.thepegcenter.org/events-bedford  to see the archive of our program flyers.  The Women in Action Huddle is our group of about 800 members with dozens of volunteers that are our feet on the street. They hold collection drives to benefit social service agencies and individuals in need of financial assistance, personal care and other items.  They engage in various activist pursuits such as letter writing and texting and attending rallies. The Huddle volunteers maintain two public garden plots on Newburyport's Clipper City Rail Trail from which produce and edible plants are provided to residents and a food pantry. The PEG Center for Art and Activism/The Huddle, founded by Paula Estey, is the culmination of a lifetime of art making, writing prose and poetry, creating a women's issues literary magazine "Maenad",  and being a social issues activist her entire life.
