Our Purpose

Grow Education (Grow), a program of the Marion Institute, is a school-based gardening initiative aimed at supporting nutritional health, community building and environmental literacy.  Over the course of a year, Grow provides each school with a foundation on which to sustain their program:  garden tools, building materials, curriculum resources, agricultural support, event facilitation support, media support and development of community partners.  We strive to build and sustainably grow healthy food for the community, utilizing New Bedford public school land as a hub to do so.  Our initiative aims to increase healthy food accessibility in residential neighborhoods throughout New Bedford, while encouraging community engagement and education.  Grow engages the community through garden-related events year round, simultaneously cultivating garden leadership among school staff, families and neighbors.
