Our Purpose

The Art Garden addresses some of the challenges of living in our rurally isolated and economically stressed region by providing children, teens and adults with opportunities for engaging in creative activities within a cultivated, inclusive and connected community setting. We create environments (both inside and outside our studio) where people of all ages and abilities explore, develop and share their unique artistic voices, strengthening their sense of confidence, belonging, and agency; leading ultimately to more engaged, sustainable and healthier lives. The Art Garden is a Community Supported Art-making place. Reciprocity and relationships are at the heart of our work. Our relationship to place (the planet, our different countries, cities, towns, communities, and what we think of as home) is something that has informed The Art Garden’s work since its founding. We are committed to art-making that explores how we are shaped by the places we help to shape. Being creatively connected to place supports community connections, an awareness of our interdependence with our human and non-human neighbors,  citizenship, collaborations, and care for what we are privileged to be a part of.
