Our Purpose

Thanks But No Tank (TBNT) is a coalition of residents and small business owners living and working in the upper Penobscot Bay area. TBNT is an incorporated not-for-profit entity under the laws of the state of Maine. Our mission is to support and protect the region's balance of economy, environment, scenic character and quality of life through empowering local citizens. TBNT members are concerned about the adverse effects posed by a proposed industrial project in Searsport: a 22.7 million gallon liquified petroleum gas (LPG) storage tank and trucking terminal, which we feel will cause irreparable damage to the natural and built environment of midcoast Maine. TBNT members came together out of mutual concern over this project, proposed by a Colorado corporation, which we feel is dangerous to the residents of the area and to the environment; economically harmful to existing businesses; unnecessary; and completely out of scale with our region and its municipal and safety services.
