Testing for Pease's Portsmouth Community Water Sampling Program
Our Purpose
Our group exists to raise awareness about the PFAS contamination present in the Portsmouth municipal water supply and to work towards ensuring access to clean, safe drinking water for all Portsmouth residents. We plan to raise awareness by contracting with a qualified water sampling lab to sample tap water in the city of Portsmouth at specified locations over a period of time (4 locations over 12 months). Our goal is to assess the levels of PFAS in Portsmouth city taps (supplied by municipal water) for levels of contamination. NH DES just recently adopted lower MCLs for 4 PFAS and we want to see how the city tap water compares to the new MCLs. Of particular concern is that a subset of our community has already been exposed to high levels of PFAS at Pease, and data suggests that continued exposure puts this group at an elevated risk for the long list of adverse health effects associated with PFAS exposure. In 2015 Andrea co-founded Testing For Pease, a community action group dedicated to sharing information and advocating for answers to questions regarding the health effects of PFAS exposure. Lindsey and Andrea work together regularly on projects impacting local, state and national PFAS-related issues.
