We organized our group to engage young people in sewing arts, providing them with opportunities to explore their creativity and assist other community members in transforming their ideas into meaningful works. By focusing on sewing arts, we have created a space that is creative, nurturing and safe. We foster connections among participants who genuinely care about positive outcomes and growth.Our projects are important to youth, residing in marginalized communities, as it helps them recognize the impact they can have on their surroundings. Through participation in our programs, young people experience the value of their contributions and learn how they truly matterWe are dedicated to inspiring community members to support one another. We do this by encouraging open discussions, highlighting the ways this work can boost self-esteem, and demonstrate how everyone—regardless of age—has the capacity to make meaningful, long-term, positive impacts on their community.Through Stitching the Future Projects, we gained valuable insights from our participants. We learned how crucial it is for everyone to feel relevant. Our commitment to this work is reinforced by our collaborations with other organizations. These partnerships have deepened our understanding of the significance that sewing once held in economically disadvantaged communities. By drawing inspiration from these traditions, we strive to honor the past while empowering participants to shape the future.
