Our Purpose

The purpose of the Stamford Seed Savers is to build a stronger and more resilient community by organizing around issues of local food security and sustainable living. To this end, we have developed a seed bank, constructed a community garden at our K-8 school, and are holding educational forums at our town library to promote cooperative sustainable activities. We are a rural, politically diverse community made up of descendants of the original settlers as well as those who have arrived more recently. The town is centered around a combined school, town office and public library where town meetings and other community events take place. Three years ago, the Stamford Selectboard granted us permission to build our gardens in an abandoned tennis court behind this building, and theTown has agreed to house the seed bank on site.Stamford Seed Savers meetings are conducted as open forums and we welcome anyone who shares our interests in building a community of mutual support, through gardening, seed saving, and educational programming.
