St. George Community Development Corporation
Our Purpose
Our purpose is to create deeper resilience in St. George in the face of dramatically changing working conditions for fishing communities. We run a food pantry, have established a community garden, provide emergency financial and heating assistance, collaborate with the school to ensure children have food over vacations and gifts at holidays. We work on health access, and host four days/yr of free dental clinic time, have some free exercise offerings in our exercise studio, and have committees focused on Aging in Place and on risk reduction related to opiode addiction. We also have a workplace housing program that is embarking on its first project in partnership with Habitat for Humanity, educational programs around entering the workforce and developing new workplace skills. And we celebrate community more broadly through a collaborative Thanksgiving meal, a summer cookout, and other outreach. Our community has deep need, but also an incredible sense of volunteerism and a fair number of seasonal (and a few year round) families of significant means. Our core goal is to be the nexus where needs can be met through collective effort and generosity.
