Our Purpose

Our purpose is to promote energy efficiency, conservation, and renewables among South Burlington’s residents, schools, businesses, and in municipal affairs by motivating residents to take action, educating people on effective ways to conserve energy, and promoting municipal policies and regulations. South Burlington, along with 52 other municipalities, is delighted to have progressed to the Quarter Finals of the Georgetown University Energy Prize, a 2-year national energy efficiency/conservation competition that runs from January 2015 - December 2016. (http://guep.org) The winner will be selected based on:1) Energy reduction over the 2-year competition period compared to baseline (quantitative) and2) How innovative, replicable and scalable to communities nationwide the programs are (qualitative). To organize to compete in the competition, the South Burlington Energy Committee has formed the South Burlington Energy Prize team. Together we have gained support of key stakeholders, including Efficiency Vermont, Vermont Gas, Green Mountain Power, the city council and the school board. We will work together to increase awareness, engagement and ultimately, inspire action!
